The Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to kick off its 2024 season in grand style with a star-studded opening ceremony at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 22.
A night of entertainment
Fans can expect a dazzling spectacle as Bollywood A-listers Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff take centre stage. The duo, gearing up for their upcoming movie ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ opposite Manushi Chhillar and Aalia Furniturewala, will enthrall the audience with their electrifying presence.
Adding a touch of melody to the evening will be the veteran singer Sonu Nigam and the musical maestro AR Rahman. Their iconic voices promise a truly unforgettable performance.
The opening ceremony kicks off at 6:30 pm IST, followed by the much-anticipated season opener between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at 8:00 PM IST. This year marks CSK’s record-setting ninth time as the opening match host in IPL history.

Engaging fans across India
Catering to the massive cricketing fanbase across the country, the IPL will once again be hosting Fan Parks in 50 Indian cities throughout the tournament. The first two weeks (March 22 to April 7) will see 15 Fan Parks come alive, starting with the opening clash in Madurai. Cricket fever will grip 11 states – Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Punjab, and Telangana – with five simultaneous Fan Parks happening each week in different cities.
