The game-changing moment unfolded in the fourth over when Pandya brought Bumrah into the attack to hunt for a wicket. Despite Saha managing to find the boundary on the fourth ball, Bumrah remained undeterred. He unleashed a lethal yorker on the off-stump line, leaving Saha completely bewildered as the ball crashed into the stumps, eliciting immediate applause from Lasith Malinga in the Mumbai’s dugout. Bumrah’s clinical performance: Restricting Gujarat to a modest score
This wicket marked Bumrah’s return to the IPL after missing the previous season due to injury, making it his first scalp in the tournament since IPL 2022. Bumrah continued to impress with his bowling, delivering several exceptional spells, ultimately limiting Gujarat to 168/6 in their opening IPL match.
With outstanding figures of 3/14, Bumrah played a pivotal role in the Mumbai’s bowling attack, ensuring a dominant start to their IPL 2024 campaign. While Sai Sudharsan‘s knock of 45 off 39 balls was the highest score for Gujarat, it wasn’t enough to overshadow Bumrah’s brilliance and the collective effort of the Mumbai Indians’ bowling unit.
Gujarat’s bowling brilliance restrains Mumbai
Responding to the challenge, Rohit Sharma‘s resilient knock of 43 runs, combined with Dewald Brevis‘ impressive 46, illuminated Mumbai’s chase as they forged a crucial third-wicket partnership of 77 runs. However, Gujarat’s bowlers regrouped effectively to stifle the opposition’s momentum, limiting Mumbai to a score of 162/9 in the end. Gujarat’s bowling attack showcased its prowess, with Spencer Johnson, Azmatullah Omarzai, Umesh Yadav and Mohit Sharma each picking two wickets apiece.
