Amidst the ongoing five-match Test series between India and England, young wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel has emerged as a standout performer, impressing cricketing legends and fans alike with his resilient batting and sharp wicketkeeping skills. Jurel’s remarkable display in the Ranchi Test earned him the Player of the Match award for his crucial contributions in both innings of the game.

Dhruv Jurel steered India to victory in the 4th Test against England

In the first innings at the JSCA Stadium, Jurel showcased his batting prowess by scoring a crucial 90 runs, rescuing India from a precarious situation in the middle-order. His innings provided stability to the team’s innings and helped steer them to a competitive total. In the second innings, Jurel once again proved his mettle with an unbeaten 39, alleviating pressure on fellow batter Shubman Gill and contributing significantly to India’s performance.

After Sunil Gavaskar, now Sourav Ganguly has his say on Dhoni-Jurel comparison

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar commended Jurel’s skills and even drew comparisons between the young talent and the legendary MS Dhoni. Gavaskar’s remarks came after witnessing Jurel’s sharp run-out against Ben Duckett in the Rajkot Test, where he exhibited exceptional agility and presence of mind.

Now, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has weighed in on the comparison between Dhoni and Jurel, acknowledging the latter’s talent and potential. Ganguly emphasized the importance of allowing Jurel to develop his own identity in the game, noting that it took Dhoni several years to establish himself as a cricketing icon.

“Dhruv Jurel… what a Test match he had under pressure on a difficult wicket. There is huge talent and if you miss you and you go back down in the ladder, it will be very hard to come back. MS Dhoni is in a different league. Jurel has talent; there’s no doubt about it. But it took MS Dhoni 20 years to be MS Dhoni. Rather 15 years for Dhoni to be Dhoni. So let him [Jurel] play. Jurel’s ability to play spin, pace and most importantly to perform under pressure. That’s what you look for in a youngster,” Ganguly was quoted as saying to RevSportz.

Meanwhile, responding to the query regarding his comparison with Dhoni, Jurel said he’s thankful for the praise from cricketing stalwarts like Gavaskar and remained focused on his game. The young cricketer, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, is set to feature in the fifth and final Test match in Dharamsala, where he aims to continue his impressive form and contribute to India’s success on the field.
