During the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 encounter between New Zealand‘s Colin Munro, representing Islamabad United, and Peshawar Zalmi, Munro exhibited exceptional sportsmanship and a warm spirit. This was evident when he shared a heartfelt hug with a ball-boy who successfully caught a six outside the boundary rope.
Missed catch and Colin Munro’s encouraging gesture
The same ball-boy had earlier missed a catch on a similarly challenging attempt, drawing sympathy from Munro, who offered a supportive tap on the shoulder and a warm hug. The initial incident unfolded during the last ball of the seventh over in the Peshawar run-chase. Faheem Ashraf, the Peshawar’s all-rounder, aimed for a six towards deep square leg, and the young ball-boy dived brilliantly but couldn’t secure the catch. Munro, with a gesture, demonstrated to the boy how to make a catch, showcasing his encouraging nature.

Redemption through brilliance: The ball-boy’s perfect catch
The kid, however, redeemed himself in front of Munro. Arif Yaqoob struck a powerful six off Rumman Raees on the fifth ball of the penultimate over, sending the ball towards the square leg region. This time, the determined ball boy showcased impeccable fielding skills, securing the catch flawlessly. Munro, having witnessed the boy’s earlier disappointment, expressed sheer joy and jubilation, celebrating the successful catch with the young enthusiast. Islamabad skipper Shadab Khan also sported a wry smile, acknowledging the delightful moment.

Challenging day with the bat and team’s triumph
Regrettably, Munro faced a challenging day with the bat, managing only 15 runs in 9 balls for the Islamabad side. Despite his dismissal, Islamabad thrived, posting a formidable score of 196/4 in their allotted 20 overs.
In response, Peshawar encountered significant struggles with the bat, with merely three batters reaching double figures. Aamer Jamal emerged as the solitary warrior for their side, showcasing an impressive performance by scoring 87 off 49 deliveries before falling to Shadab. The leg-spinner concluded with noteworthy figures of 3/41 in his four overs, ultimately securing Islamabad’s victory by a margin of 29 runs.
