The England tour of India 2024 was nothing short of a cricketing spectacle, witnessing remarkable performances and historic milestones. As the Indian team triumphed with a series score of 4-1, there was one specific player that emerged from the shadows to capture the attention of veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

Amidst the discussions surrounding India’s dominance and individual achievements, Ashwin took a moment to shine the spotlight on a young talent, heralding them as the next superstar of Indian cricket.

It is worth mentioning that throughout the series against England, Ashwin himself etched his name in the annals of cricketing history, reaching the monumental milestone of 500 Test wickets and donning the Indian whites for the 100th time, culminating in a stellar five-wicket haul in his centennial Test match. However, it was Gill who captured Ashwin’s attention and admiration. In a recent discussion on his official YouTube channel, Ashwin showered praise upon Gill, lauding his ability to weather the storms of uncertainty and adversity, ultimately emerging as a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.
For Ashwin, Gill’s ability to handle pressure and deliver consistently on the international stage was commendable, and he alluded to the player’s journey of transformation.

“I give extra praise to Shubman Gill because he has seen the ups and downs of the game. People discussed his position in the XI. He had a few technical issues of his own. He came past all that to become what he is today, like how gold is molten from flames and water. And for somebody who is bound to be the next superstar of Indian cricket, as people project, this is a very important journey for him. He has handled the pressure, and massive applause is for him,” said Ashwin.

It’s notable that despite a challenging start in the initial few innings, Gill orchestrated a remarkable comeback during the series against England. He concluded as the second-highest run-scorer of the leg, tallying an impressive 452 runs, including two centuries.
