The International Cricket Council (ICC) released its latest Test rankings on Wednesday, and Team India emerged as a clear winner with several players making significant strides. Leading the pack is veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who reclaimed the coveted number one spot in the bowlers’ rankings.
Ravichandran Ashwin spins his way back to the top:
Ashwin’s magnificent bowling performance in his 100th Test match against England proved instrumental. His nine-wicket haul, including a match-winning fifer in the second innings at Dharamsala, propelled him back to the top of the bowling charts. This marks his sixth stint at the pinnacle of the rankings, solidifying his reputation as a world-class spinner.
Rohit Sharma bats his way up the rankings:
India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, also enjoyed a significant climb in the rankings. His masterful century in the Dharamsala Test propelled him up five places to the sixth position in the batting charts. This impressive performance puts him within striking distance of the top-ranked batter, Kane Williamson, with a gap of 108 rating points.
Young guns Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill also make gains:
India’s batting depth was further bolstered by the rise of young talents Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. Jaiswal climbed two spots to reach a career-best eighth position, while Gill made a remarkable leap of 11 places to achieve a joint 20th position.
