Gavaskar singled out Dhruv Jurel as one of the players to watch out for, citing his promising batting performances in both the previous IPL season and this year in international cricket.
“Dhruv Jurel can be that person definitely. The way he has batted this year and the way he batted last IPL, he can definitely get a promotion up the order,” Gavaskar said.

IPL and international successes
Jurel, who was signed by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) during the IPL 2022 auction, showcased his batting prowess in the IPL 2023 season, accumulating 152 runs in 11 matches at an impressive strike rate of 172.72. His consistent performances established him as a reliable finisher for the team.
Following his impressive IPL stint, Jurel received his maiden call-up to the Indian national team for the Test series against England. He made an impact debut and accumulated a total of 190 runs at an impressive average of 63.33 during the series. Now, the young talent is geared up to represent Rajasthan once again in the upcoming IPL season.
Another emerging talent to keep an eye on
In addition to Jurel, Gavaskar also highlighted Akash Deep as another emerging talent to keep an eye on. Making his debut in the England series, Akashdeep impressed with his control and accuracy, grabbing three wickets in his first outing. Despite limited opportunities in the IPL, playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Akashdeep has showcased glimpses of his potential, picking up six wickets in seven games over the past two years. Gavaskar believes that Akash deep’s performances on the big stage could earn him more opportunities in the IPL, potentially making a significant difference for his team.
“Akash Deep, he hasn’t got a lot of opportunities, but the way he has shown performances on the big stage in test matches, probably he will get more opportunities now, and that can make a big difference,” the Mumbai-born cricketer concluded.
