In a heartfelt gesture, Indian batter Surya Kumar Yadav sent a sparkling message to Richa Ghosh, who faced devastation after narrowly missing out on securing a victory for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Richa Ghosh’s heroic half-century falls short

Needing 182 to win, Richa showcased brilliance by scoring a remarkable half-century off 28 balls for RCB, bringing them to the brink of victory. However, in a dramatic turn of events, the Capitals managed to escape defeat by the narrowest margin of one run. Ghosh’s valiant efforts, including a six off the penultimate ball, weren’t sufficient to secure the win, as the final delivery resulted in a run-out.

The unfortunate run-out moment

Facing the last ball, Ghosh needed two runs for victory. She hit the ball to cover, where Shafali Verma quickly retrieved and threw it back to the bowler, Jess Jonassen. Despite Ghosh’s dive, she fell short of the crease, leading to a run-out. While her partner Shreyanka Patil was safely came back in the crease, Ghosh couldn’t make it over the line

. The run-out decision was confirmed after a referral, leaving Ghosh devastated. Surrounding her were players from the DC camp, offering solace in their own way. They took turns consoling her, embracing Ghosh and lifting her spirits during what seemed to be a challenging moment.

Surya Kumar Yadav’s uplifting message

Amidst the disappointment, India’s white-ball specialist, Surya Kumar took to his Instagram story to share a heartwarming caption: “You are a star.” The gesture conveyed support and encouragement for Ghosh, acknowledging her stellar performance despite the challenging outcome.

Delhi Capital’s victory and WPL 2024 standings

With three wins and four losses in seven matches, Smriti Mandhana‘s RCB currently stands third in the WPL points table. Delhi claimed the top spot with five wins in seven matches, followed closely by Mumbai Indians (MI) with a similar record, distinguished only by Net Run Rate (NRR).
