In an exciting encounter at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Afghanistan clashed with Ireland in the 2nd T20I of the Afghanistan vs Ireland in UAE 2024 tournament. Playing their do-or-die contest, Afghan side managed to register a thrilling win by 10 runs to keep the series alive and set up the decider.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Afghanistan set a target of 153 runs for Ireland. The Afghan innings saw contributions from various batters, with Mohammad Nabi‘s explosive knock of 59 runs off 38 deliveries standing out. Despite some valuable knocks, including a quickfire 25 off 12 balls from captain Rashid Khan, Afghanistan managed to post a total of 152/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Ireland, in pursuit of the target, displayed commendable resilience but fell short by 10 runs, finishing at 142/8 in their 20 overs. Andy Balbirnie top-scored for Ireland with 45 runs off 44 balls, supported by Gareth Delany‘s aggressive 39 off just 18 deliveries.

However, the Afghan bowlers, led by Rashid’s exceptional spell of 4 wickets for 14 runs, proved to be the difference-maker. Nangeyalia kharote also contributed significantly with the ball, claiming 2 wickets for 23 runs.

Ultimately, Afghanistan’s all-round performance secured them a hard-fought victory, with Rashid rightfully awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling display.
