USA Cricket have unveiled their 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 International (T20I) series against Canada, scheduled to commence from April 7 at the Prairie View Cricket Complex (PVCC) in Houston, Texas. The announcement brings forth a blend of experience and fresh talent, with notable inclusions marking a significant shift in the team dynamics. Monank Patel retains his role as captain of the USA squad, with Aaron Jones serving as his deputy.

Notable inclusions highlight squad announcement

The headline-grabbing addition to the USA squad is the former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson. Anderson’s inclusion comes as no surprise given his stellar performances in domestic T20 competitions since relocating to the United States in 2020. The T20 specialist boasts an impressive record, amassing over 900 runs in 28 innings with a striking rate of 146 in the Minor League Cricket (MiLC).

Another significant addition to the squad is the former India U19 player, Harmeet Singh. Harmeet, known for his relentless performances in domestic competitions, particularly led his MiLC team, Seattle Thunderbolts, to victory in 2022. His consistent displays earned him the prestigious title of the number 1 domestic draft pick in MLC history after being signed by the Seattle Orcas.

Milind Kumar, a former player for Delhi and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), also secures a spot in the USA squad on the back of consistent performances in the MiLC, where he amassed over 1100 runs in 35 innings. His contributions for the Texas Super Kings further bolstered his case for selection.

Emotional return for former Canada captain

In what promises to be an emotionally charged encounter, the former Canada captain, Nitish Kumar, is set to make his return to international cricket against his former side. Having crossed the border in 2021, the veteran player adds depth and experience to the USA lineup.

However, the squad announcement also comes with its share of omissions, with former India U19 star Unmukt Chand notably missing out on selection.
