Notably, Karthik’s resurgence comes at a time when India is looking to solidify their middle-order batting for the World Cup. His ability to play big shots in the death overs and his experience as a wicketkeeper make him a valuable asset.
In the ongoing 17th season of the cash-rich league, Karthik has been a key player for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), often guiding his team home with crucial late-innings cameos. His impressive performances have garnered attention from fans and pundits alike, sparking discussions about a possible comeback to the national team.

However, Karthik faces stiff competition for a spot in the squad. With young wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant already established and other contenders like Ishan Kishan also vying for selection, the competition for places is intense.
Karthik expressed confidence in the decision-making abilities of Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, and Ajit Agarkar, whom he considers as stable and honest individuals tasked with determining the optimal Indian team for the upcoming World Cup. Karthik emphasized his complete support for their decisions, affirming his readiness to contribute and stating his unwavering commitment to securing a spot on the World Cup squad through his dedication and efforts.
“I also feel there are three very, very stable, honest people who are at their helm to decide what should be the best Indian team for the World Cup. Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, and Ajit Agarkar. And I’m completely with them. I respect any decision that they take. But all I can say is I’m 100% ready. And you know I’ll do everything I can to be on that flight to the World Cup,” added Karthik.
