The reigning champions, England, have unveiled their squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, with Jos Buttler retaining his leadership role for the English team in the forthcoming multi-team tournament. The announcement was made by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) via their official X account.
Jofra Archer returns
Fast bowler Jofra Archer has made a comeback to England’s white-ball squad as he readies himself to resume competitive cricket following nearly a year on the sidelines. Archer has been deemed fit after recuperating from a right elbow injury that sidelined him from competitive action since May 2023.
Chris Jordan makes his comeback
Another notable inclusion in the squad is the return of all-rounder Chris Jordan, edging out Chris Woakes. Jordan’s versatility, especially his ability to contribute with the bat lower down the order, has earned him a place in the team. Jordan’s recent performance in the 2023 Vitality Blast, has bolstered England’s options.

England players to leave IPL 2024 early
In a strategic move, England have also decided to recall their players from the Indian Premier League (IPL) ahead of the Pakistan T20I series scheduled to commence from May 22. This decision means that several star cricketers will depart the IPL prematurely, sacrificing their participation in the playoffs. The English squad is set to depart for the Caribbean on May 31, gearing up for their opening group match against Scotland at the Kensington Oval, Barbados, on Wednesday, June 4.
