Expectations are high for Team India regarding the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 as fans anticipate a formidable squad led by seasoned campaigners like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, supported by a mix of emerging talents. With a focus on consistency, adaptability to varying conditions, strong leadership, and mental toughness, India aim to showcase their prowess in all aspects of the game, while fostering team cohesion and resilience. The team’s preparation and performance will be closely watched as they strive to clinch the coveted title on the global stage.

India’s quest for ICC trophy

Having won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, India is eager to add another ICC trophy to their cabinet, ending a drought that has persisted since their Champions Trophy victory in 2013. Despite coming close to clinching the ICC trophy in the ODI World Cup 2023, India faced defeat against Australia in the final.

Focus on team combination

Fans are keenly observing Team India’s composition for the upcoming T20 World Cup, particularly in the bowling department. Speaking about the same, former chief selector MSK Prasad has singled out a young speedster who he believes should be included in the squad for the global event.

MSD Prasad’s endorsement for a budding pacer

Prasad emphasized the significance of the IPL as a platform where players face high-pressure situations regularly, making it an ideal stage to assess talent and highlighted Mayank Yadav‘s ability to handle pressure and consistently bowl well, particularly generating pace that troubles even top-quality batters.

With Mohammed Shami‘s absence leaving a gap in India’s pace bowling lineup, Prasad suggested that Mayank’s combination of pace and accuracy makes him a valuable asset, deserving of a place in the squad for the T20 World Cup.

“Had it been some other format, probably I would have thought differently. I would have taken a call only after watching him for a couple of bilateral series. But IPL is in itself a mega platform where you can showcase your talent because every game involves pressure. Mayank is someone who has shown he can absorb pressure and bowl consistently at a good line. He has already troubled the best of the lot with his pace. If they are not being able to bring the bat down against the pace, he has been generating I think he will be handy. And looking at the Indian bowling, especially with Shami now being ruled out, the selectors must be looking for a third seamer after Bumrah and Siraj. Someone with that kind of a pace and accuracy, deserves a place in the T20 World Cup squad,” said Prasad in an interview with Revsportz.
