Chennai Super Kings (CSK)‘ star pacer, Mustafizur Rahman, is gearing up to bid adieu to Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 midway, owing to his national team commitments.
Mustafizur Rahman to depart CSK midway
His departure will mark the conclusion of his IPL stint after the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 1, as he heads off for the T20I series against Zimbabwe, commencing on May 3. Following this, Rahman will embark on another journey to the United States of America (USA), where he’s set to participate in a three-match T20I series against the hosts, scheduled to kick off from May 21 in Houston, Texas. This will be crucial for him and the Bangladesh side as a preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 which is set to take place in USA and the West Indies from June 1.
BCB chief’s agressive reamarks on CSK’s management
Rahman’s impending exit is poised to leave a notable void in the CSK’s lineup. His stellar performance in the league so far, amassing 10 wickets in just five matches, positions him fourth in the race for the coveted Purple Cap. However, amidst his stellar showing, criticism has been levied against the IPL by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)‘s cricket operations chairman, Mohammed Jalal Yunus. Yunus contended that Rahman has “nothing to learn” in the IPL, adding fuel to concerns regarding CSK’s management of Rahman’s workload and fitness.
“Mustafizur has nothing to learn from playing in the IPL. Mustafizur’s learning process is over. Rather, there are many players in IPL who can learn from him. Bangladesh will not benefit from this,” Yunus was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.
“Our concern is Mustafizur’s fitness. They (CSK) want to take 100 per cent from him. They don’t have a headache about his fitness, but we do. The reason we are bringing back Mustafizur is not just to play in the Zimbabwe series, but if he is brought here, we will plan him with the workload. But that plan won’t happen if he’s in IPL,” Yunus concluded.
Mustafizur ongoing commitment
Nevertheless, Rahman’s impact at the onset of IPL 2024 was undeniably significant. His exceptional four-wicket haul against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) played a pivotal role in CSK’s triumphant start to the season. Despite the impending departure, Rahman remains committed to CSK’s upcoming fixtures, which include two back to back crucial clashes against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), then one game each against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and PBKS.
