In a light-hearted exchange during the post-match revelry, Bumrah humorously expressed his relief at not having to bowl to Romario Shepherd, particularly when Shepherd was in top form. Amidst the jubilant ambiance, Bumrah conveyed his satisfaction with the team’s spirited display and the refreshing win after a series of setbacks. He also gave a special mention to Shepherd for his sterling finish in the game.

“It was really great to get the win; the atmosphere was also very energetic. Our team was feeling refreshed after the break. I’m really happy. Special shout-out to Romario Shepherd – it was wonderful to see him finish the game so strongly. I’m glad I didn’t have to bowl to him,” Bumrah said.

Significance of Mumbai Indians’ victory

Against Delhi, following the dismissal of Hardik Pandya in the 18th over, Shepherd assumed control at the crease. He showcased his explosive batting skills by forging a blistering partnership of 53 runs off just 13 balls for the sixth wicket. Shepherd’s innings, which featured three boundaries and four towering sixes, proved instrumental in Mumbai’s victory.

In the final over, Shepherd unleashed a breathtaking onslaught against Anrich Nortje, smashing 32 runs with commanding boundaries and sixes, ultimately clinching the win for his team. Shepherd’s exceptional performance earned him the coveted Player of the Match award, contributing significantly to Mumbai’s much-needed triumph under their new skipper, Hardik Pandya.
