IPL 2024: Playoffs scenario for Sunrisers Hyderabad after loss against Chennai Super Kings
Qualification scenario for SRH (PC-Twitter)

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), often regarded as one of the most underrated franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL), currently occupies the 4th position on the points table with 10 points from 9 matches. However, they suffered defeats in their last two encounters against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). With five more matches to play in the season, SRH will aim to bounce back and strengthen their position in the standings.

Playoff dreams alive for Sunrisers Hyderabad

Following a promising beginning in the IPL 2024, SRH have encountered two consecutive defeats. With five victories and four losses thus far this season, they remain in a favourable position and are determined to secure a spot in the playoffs.

Qualification scenarios for SRH

In their quest for a playoff berth, SRH must not only triumph in matches but also rely on other results to align in their favour. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the scenarios:

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad victories: SRH must emerge victorious in at least three out of their remaining five matches against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Mumbai Indians (MI), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Gujarat Titans (GT), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) to reach the 16-point mark in the points table.
  • Results dependency: SRH’s qualification also relies on the performance of other teams. They will need certain teams in the points table to lose matches and maintain a poor run rate to enhance their chances.
  • Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals limitations: LSG and Delhi Capitals (DC) are currently positioned 5th and 6th in the points table, respectively. SRH hopes that these teams will not secure more than two victories each, as it could hinder SRH’s chances of reaching the playoffs.
  • Restrict Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians: GT, PBKS, and MI are still contenders in the playoffs race. If they win all their remaining matches, they could potentially equal SRH’s points tally. Therefore, it’s crucial for SRH that these teams lose at least one game to maintain their advantage in the standings.

SRH’s ambiguous journey

Once these conditions are met, SRH will qualify for the playoffs, but the Net Run Rate (NRR) will also play a crucial role. Currently, SRH is only marginally ahead of LSG, so they must maintain their performance in all remaining matches to secure their position.
