Delhi Capitals’ (DC) struggles in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 continued as they fell to a 7-wicket defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on Monday, April 28. Their batting woes were further highlighted by the early dismissal of Prithvi Shaw, who has been struggling for a place in the playing XI.

Shaw, once touted as a generational talent, has seen his stock plummet in recent seasons. He was dropped for the previous match against Mumbai Indians (MI) but was given another chance against KKR. However, he failed to capitalize on the opportunity.

Reaction of Prithvi Shaw’s girlfriend

Despite a promising start, smashing three boundaries in the first over, Shaw fell cheaply in the second over. Vaibhav Arora‘s delivery found a faint edge on its way down the leg side, ending Shaw’s knock at 13. His dismissal was met with visible disappointment not only from the player himself but also from his girlfriend Nidhi Tapadia, who was watching the game from the stands.

A comfortable win for KKR

Shaw’s early exit added to DC’s woes. The loss of the dangerous Jake-Fraser-McGurk soon after further crippled their batting, leaving them with a below-par total of 153 runs.

Chasing 154 for victory, the Knight Riders reached home comfortably in just 16.3 overs, with Phil Salt’s blazing 68 leading the way.

The defeat puts Delhi Capitals’ playoff hopes in jeopardy. Their struggles with the bat, particularly at the top of the order, need to be addressed if they are to turn their season around.
