IPL 2024: Ricky Ponting fumes over the loss of Delhi Capitals against Kolkata Knight Riders; criticizes the approach of players
Ricky Ponting embarrased with loss Against KKR. DC vs KKR. Vizag

Delhi Capitals’s massive defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders on their home ground in Vizag left their head coach fuming. The match, which took place in Vizag on Tuesday, saw a one-sided domination of KKR, both with the bat and the ball. As a result, DC suffered a loss by 106 runs and plunged to 9th position in the IPL points table, just above Mumbai Indians.

In the post-match press conference, Ricky Ponting pointed out several drawbacks in DC players’ performance and criticized the Delhi players for maintaining a slow over rate in the match.

Need to fix a lot of things: Ponting

Ponting said that many unacceptable things occurred during their match against KKR and said that these things must be solved quickly.

“There are a lot of things that happened in this game that are unacceptable; we have to fix [them] immediately to go forward in this tournament,” said Ponting.

The DC Head Coach also stated that he felt embarrassed after conceding too many runs by their bowlers; talking about it, he said, “I was almost embarrassed with our first half of the game today – to concede that many runs. It took us two hours as well to bowl our overs, so we were two overs behind again, which means the guys bowling the last two overs only get to bowl with four fielders outside the circle.”

Concerns for Pant

Ponting also expressed his concerns regarding Rishabh Pant. Though Ponting lauded Pant’s batting efforts, he also figured out some cons in the DC captain’s on-field decision.

“Pleased for him (Pant), what he did with the bat. A situation like that, where he had to go out and attack from the start is probably a scenario that he needed just to get some confidence back. He is actually had two good games with the bat now which is great,” Ponting stated.

“Narine was missed and then Shreyas Iyer was missed later on. I am not sure what happened there. Obviously, Rishabh had not heard them. Other fielders and bowlers on the ground actually heard something on both occasions,” the 49-year-old concluded.
