In a display of sportsmanship, former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma was seen urging the crowd to stop booing current skipper Hardik Pandya during their IPL 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR). The video and pictures capturing the moment have gone viral on social media.

This comes amidst Hardik facing criticism from a section of the home crowd ever since taking over the captaincy from Rohit. The boos continued at the Wankhede Stadium, prompting commentator Sanjay Manjrekar to request silence from the fans.

Rohit Sharma struggles with the bat

Earlier , after put in to bat first, MI faced early jolts. Rohit fell for a golden duck, edging an outswinger from Trent Boult to RR wicketkeeper and captain Sanju Samson. Boult continued his fiery spell, dismissing  Naman Dhir and Dewald Brevis for ducks as well.

Tilak Varma (32) and Hardik Pandya (34) showed some resistance in the middle. But as soon as Hardik departed in the 10th over, with MI at 76/5, the rest of the batters failed to capitalize. Eventually, MI were restricted for a meagre 125/9 by the Rajasthan bowlers.

Rajasthan Royals cruise to victory

RR chased down the target comfortably in 15.3 overs, thanks to a brilliant unbeaten 54 from Riyan Parag. Akash Madhwal was the lone bright spot for MI with his three wickets. This loss marked Mumbai’s third consecutive defeat in the IPL 2024 season.
