Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad has made bold predictions regarding the future of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Mayank Yadav, suggesting that the young talent possesses the potential to represent India at the international level. Broad’s assessment comes on the heels of Mayank’s stunning performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

Praise for Mayank Yadav’s Performance

Broad didn’t hold back in praising Mayank, highlighting his exceptional debut in the IPL. The seasoned cricketer commended Mayank’s ability to shift the momentum of the game with his impressive pace and skillful line. Notably, his standout performance against Punjab Kings, where he recorded figures of 3/27 at a blistering pace of 155.8 KMPH, caught Broad’s attention and earned him the Player-of-the-Match Award.

“It was one of the most spectacular debuts that I have seen from a young bowler. To come in and change the rhythm of the game like he did. He has a very calm, smooth stride at his run-up with a great flow. What impressed me the most was his 156kph, but his line was incredible. He was beating international quality players for pace. So, he has all the attributes to look for as a young fast bowler,” remarked Broad during his analysis on Star Sports Press Box.

Managing expectations and mentorship

Despite the hype surrounding Mayank’s potential, Broad urged fans to temper their expectations. He emphasized the importance of not overburdening the young talent with unrealistic demands, especially considering his history of injuries. Broad also acknowledged the significant role played by former South African cricketer Morne Morkel, who serves as a mentor to Mayank during the IPL, providing invaluable guidance and support.

“It’s exciting. He has already had injury issues in the last couple of seasons. He has got a mentor in Morne Morkel to guide him throughout this IPL. Of course, we are going to be excited. When you got raw pace, you have got to be excited. But let’s not set our expectation too high,” cautioned Broad.
