The 22nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 was a one-sided affair. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) dominated the across all departments – bowling, batting, and fielding. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were restricted to a meagre 137 runs, which CSK chased down comfortably with seven wickets remaining. Tushar Deshpande and Ravindra Jadeja were the stars of the show for CSK. This victory marked their third win after a two-match losing streak, while KKR suffered their first defeat of the IPL 2024 season.
Ravindra Jadeja puts the brakes on KKR’s runaway train
Jadeja’s exceptional bowling proved pivotal for CSK. In his devastating spell of four overs, he claimed a three-wicket haul. His victims included Angkrish Raghuvanshi (trapped LBW with a flatter delivery), Sunil Narine (caught at long-off on an outside-off delivery) and Venkatesh Iyer (dismissed by a back off-length delivery). Notably, Jadeja broke the dangerous 56-run partnership between Raghuvanshi and Narine at a critical juncture. These wickets significantly restricted KKR to a paltry 137 runs, a total which was later easily chased down by CSK.

Shreyas Iyer shines but KKR falls short against CSK
Despite a valiant 34-run knock from Shreyas Iyer, the KKR batting lineup struggled for support. No other batsman managed to reach the 30-run mark, leaving KKR with a modest total. This lack of assistance proved insufficient against the CSK. Tight bowling spells from Deshpande and Jadeja stifled KKR’s scoring opportunities. Both bowlers claimed three wickets each, effectively dismantling any attempts to build a significant partnership.
In reply, CSK chased down the target with ease to register their third win in IPL 2024. Ruturaj Gaikwad (67 runs) contributed with a brilliant half century and played a vital role in his teams’s victory.
