Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered a thrilling victory in their tightly contested Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Mumbai Indians (MI). CSK prevailed by 20 runs, thanks in large part to a stellar bowling performance from Matheesha Pathirana. The young spinner emerged as Player of the Match, claiming four crucial wickets at a critical juncture in the game.

MI opener Rohit Sharma stole the show with a magnificent century (105 off 63 balls), a display of exceptional batting prowess. His audacious reverse sweep for a boundary off Ravindra Jadeja‘s delivery sent the crowd into a frenzy, with Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor and Sachin Tendulkar‘s daughter Sara Tendulkar adding to the enthusiastic cheers.

Rohit Sharma’s ton goes in vain as Mumbai Indians suffers defeat

The CSK posted a formidable total of 206 runs on the scoreboard, propelled by impressive half-centuries from Ruturaj Gaikwad (69 runs off 40 balls) and Shivam Dube (66 runs off 38 balls). Additionally, MS Dhoni‘s cameo of 20 runs in just 4 balls, including three consecutive sixes off Hardik Pandya‘s over, further bolstered their innings.

In response, MI began promisingly, reaching 63/0 after the powerplay. However, the momentum shifted in the 7th over when  Pathirana dislodged the top order, dismissing Ishan Kishan and Surya Kumar Yadav. Despite a commendable 105 runs off 63 balls by Rohit and his 60-run partnership with Tilak Varma (30 runs), MI struggled to finish on a high.
