IPL 2024 [WATCH]: Yash Thakur cleans up Shubman Gill with a ripper during LSG vs GT match

Yash Thakur, the 25-year-old bowler, showcased his resilience and determination, becoming the first pacer to clinch a wicket haul of this year’s IPL season. The young blood proved ruthless in the match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Titans (GT) in Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium on Sunday.

In their home match against GT, LSG came to bat first and posted a target of 163 runs at the loss of five wickets. This inning included a half-century by Marcus Stoinis. The hosts suffered a massive blow during the second innings of the match when their star pacer, Mayank Yadav, suffered a side strain and left the field after bowling just one over and conceding 13 runs.

LSG, who failed to set a big target for GT to chase, seemed to lose the balance of the match. However, destiny had a different plan, as another shining star bowler emerged as the match-winner for Lucknow, adding an unexpected twist to the game.

Yash, who debuted last year in IPL, wreaked havoc and became the second bowler of LSG to grab five wickets at Ekana Stadium. Among the five wickets of the young lad, his perfect delivery to dismiss Shubman Gill grabbed everyone’s attention.

When the opening pair of Gill and Sai Sudharsan looked strong, Yash came out as a saviour and knocked out Gill with a fierce delivery on the last ball of his first over. Gill was left clueless about how to play that ball and lost his wicket.

A fifer for Yash

Yash was super impressive with the ball for LSG. The right-arm pacer destroyed GT’s batting by taking a brilliant five-wicket haul. His fifer included the dismissals of  Gill (bowled), Vijay Shankar (catch- KL Rahul), Rahul Tewatia (catch- Nicholas Pooran), Rashid Khan (caught and bowled) and Noor Ahmad (catch- Quinton de Kock).
