Riyan Parag has emerged as a key player for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. This season has been a breakout year for Parag.

Parag has scored 261 runs in just five matches at a blistering strike rate of 158. He has also scored three impressive fifties and played a crucial role in rescuing the team from batting collapses by playing responsibly at number four.

Riyan Parag’s IPL evolution

Parag made his IPL debut for the RR in 2019 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). However, his performance in previous seasons was inconsistent, with an aggregate of 600 runs in 54 matches across five seasons at a strike rate of 122. Concerns were also raised regarding his temperament. Nevertheless, Parag persevered and focused on improvement. Following a successful domestic season, he entered IPL 2024 with renewed confidence. This dedication has paid off, as Parag has begun IPL 2024 in impressive form.

Brad Hogg on Riyan Parag’s rise in IPL

In the meantime, former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg has praised Parag’s maturity in IPL 2024. He highlighted Parag’s achievement as the youngest player to score an IPL fifty and commended his energetic approach to the game. Hogg acknowledged that Parag faced challenges with self-belief in the previous IPL editions but he sees a positive shift now. According to Hogg, Parag has channelled his confidence constructively and is now focused on contributing to the team’s success.

“I am really liking when I am seeing young (Riyan) Parag. He is the youngest player to hit a fifty in the history of the IPL. I love his energy, and I love the way he fields. I think he has really matured this year. Last year, I guess he had a bit of a strut on him. I don’t say this disrespectfully, but I think he had a bit of an ego last year. The ego is still there, but it is in control. He believes in himself, and he is now more worried about what he can do for the team than trying to seal his place in the team,” said Hogg in a podcast on YouTube.
