The opening T20I of the West Indies women’s tour of Pakistan 2024 unfolded at the National Stadium, where West Indies Women elected to bat after winning the toss. In a closely contested match, West Indies Women managed to clinch victory by the narrowest of margins, edging out Pakistan Women by just 1 run.

Fatima Sana, Sadia Iqbal restrict West Indies at a below-par total

Batting first, the West Indies Women put up a total of 122/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Hayley Matthews fell early for a duck, but Qiana Joseph‘s resilient knock of 34 and contributions from Stafanie Taylor (30) and Chinelle Henry (13) bolstered their innings. However, the Pakistani bowlers put up a commendable effort, with Sadia Iqbal (2 wickets for 23 runs) and Fatima Sana (3 wickets for 24 runs) leading the attack.

Karishma Ramharack takes Windies home with brilliant bowling

In response, Pakistan Women chased down the target with determination but fell agonizingly short, finishing at 121/8 in their 20 overs. Sidra Ameen (23) and Nida Dar (27) provided stability to the innings, but the disciplined bowling performance from the West Indies Women, led by Karishma Ramharack‘s impressive spell of 4 wickets for 15 runs, proved decisive.

Despite Pakistan’s valiant effort, they were unable to cross the finishing line, and West Indies Women emerged victorious by the narrowest margin. Ramharack’s exceptional bowling performance earned her the well-deserved Player of the Match award for her crucial contributions in securing the win for her team.
