The race for a spot in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad is heating up, and the IPL 2024 has become the battleground where players are showcasing their mettle. Among the many contenders, the debate over the wicketkeeper-batter slot has been particularly intense, with stellar performances from the likes of Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, and others.
However, in a recent clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), it was Dinesh Karthik (DK) who stole the spotlight with a blazing fifty for RCB, prompting a witty response from his friend and adversary Rohit Sharma regarding T20 World Cup selection.
Dinesh Karthik’s explosive knock
The match saw RCB batting first after winning the toss, aiming to set a daunting target for MI. Despite a solid effort from MI’s bowlers, RCB managed to post a competitive total of 196/8 in their 20 overs. Faf du Plessis led the charge with a brilliant 61 off 40 balls, well-supported by Rajat Patidar’s explosive 50 off just 26 deliveries. However, it was Karthik who provided the late flourish with a breathtaking 53 off a mere 23 balls, showcasing his prowess with the bat.

The video of this light-hearted banter quickly spread like wildfire across the internet, showcasing the camaraderie and competitive spirit among Karthik and Rohit. Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav’s heroics overshadow Karthik’s efforts
While RCB posted a challenging total, MI was undeterred in their pursuit of victory. Led by Ishan Kishan’s explosive 69 off 34 balls, MI chased down the target with ease. Skipper Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav also made significant contributions with scores of 38 and 52 respectively. Despite losing a few wickets towards the end, Hardik Pandya’s blistering cameo of 21 off just 6 balls ensured MI reached the target comfortably, securing a win with 27 balls to spare.
