Sunil Narine, who announced his retirement from international cricket last year, is now making waves in the ongoing IPL season. His stellar performances have been pivotal in securing victories for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in numerous matches. Notably, Narine recently achieved a significant milestone by scoring a century and claiming a wicket in the same match.
With the T20 World Cup on the horizon, there is widespread speculation that Narine may end his retirement to represent the West Indies in the premier stage of T20 cricket. Reacting to this, the former West Indies all-rounder revealed his plans for the upcoming World Cup.
Sunil Narine speaks on his comeback
Despite his outstanding performance in the IPL, Narine has made his stance clear. In an Instagram post, he firmly stated that he has no intentions of reversing his retirement decision and will not be participating in the T20 World Cup. Narine also expressed his gratitude to his fans, who had been urging him to reconsider his retirement.
“I’m truly flattered and humbled that my performances recently have moved many people to publicly express their wish for me to come out of retirement and play in the upcoming T20 World Cup,” Narine shared on Instagram.
“I have made peace with that decision and whilst I never wish to disappoint, that door is now closed and I will be supporting the guys who take the field in June for West Indies. Guys who have worked hard over the past few months and deserve to show our wonderful fans that they are capable of winning another title. I wish you all the best,” the 35-year-old added.

Narine denies Rovman Powell’s request
West Indies captain and Rajasthan Royals (RR) player Rovman Powell disclosed that he has been urging Narine to return to the team for the past year, but Narine has consistently declined his requests. Powell also mentioned that he has approached Keiron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, and Nicholas Pooran to persuade Narine to reconsider his decision.
“For the last 12 months, I’ve been whispering in his (Narine’s) ears, he’s blocked out everyone. Asked Pollard, Bravo, Pooran, hopefully before they select the team, they can crack his code,” Powell said as quoted by the Times of India.
