In the exciting third and final Women’s ODI, part of the ICC Championship, between Pakistan Women and West Indies Women at the National Stadium, it was the visitors who emerged victorious, claiming a commanding win by 88 runs.
Hayley Matthews shines with a spectacular century
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, West Indies Women set a formidable total of 278/6 in their allotted 50 overs. The highlight of their innings was an outstanding century by Hayley Matthews, who scored 141 runs off 149 deliveries, anchoring the innings with 19 boundaries. Contributions from Shemaine Campbelle (38) and Stafanie Taylor (47) bolstered their total.
Disciplined bowling keep Pakistan batters at bay
Pakistan Women, in response, struggled to keep up with the required run rate, eventually being bowled out for 190 runs in 47.5 overs. Despite efforts from Muneeba Ali (38) and Aliya Riaz (36), they fell short of the target. Matthews continued her brilliance with the ball as well, taking 2 crucial wickets for 26 runs in her 8 overs.
The West Indies bowlers maintained a disciplined line and length throughout the innings, restricting Pakistan Women and ultimately securing a comprehensive victory. Shamilia Connell, Matthews, and Stafanie Taylor were the pick of the bowlers, each claiming 2 wickets.
Matthews bags top honours
In recognition of her exceptional all-round performance, Matthews was awarded the Player of the Match. She was also adjudged Player of the Series. The West Indies skipper finished the 3-match leg as the leading run-scorer (325 runs) and joint highest wicket-taker with Nida Dar (6 wickets).
