The 36th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 turned out to be an absolute thriller where Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) edged out the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by a small margin of 1 run in a high-scoring encounter at the Eden Gardens.

Phil Salt, Shreyas Iyer help KKR post big total

Electing to bat first, KKR got off to a flying start thanks to a quickfire 48 from Phil Salt, Shreyas Iyer (50) and Ramandeep Singh (24* off just 9 balls) provided valuable contributions in the middle order, propelling KKR to a daunting total of 222/6.

RCB fall short in last-over drama

In reply, RCB’s chase started poorly with both Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli departing cheaply. However, a brilliant counter-attack from Rajat Patidar (52) and Will Jacks (55) brought them back into contention. Dinesh Karthik (25) and Karn Sharma‘s (20* off 7) late cameos kept the scoreboard ticking. Karn smashed three sixes in the final over bowled by Mitchell Starc but couldn’t get his side over the finish line and ultimately RCB fell short by a solitary run despite reaching 221/9.
