In a riveting encounter at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Gujarat Titans (GT) emerged victorious over Punjab Kings (PBKS) by three wickets in Match 37 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Sai Kishore‘s exceptional bowling performance, coupled with Rahul Tewatia‘s match-winning knock, sealed the victory for GT on Sunday (April 21).

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, PBKS’s innings got off to a steady start with opener Prabhsimran Singh’s aggressive 35 off 21 balls, backed by valuable contributions from Sam Curran and Jitesh Sharma. However, the innings failed to gather momentum as wickets fell at regular intervals. Harpreet Brar‘s late flourish, comprising 29 runs off 12 deliveries, propelled PBKS to a modest total of 142/10 in their allotted 20 overs. GT’s bowlers displayed a collective effort, with Kishore shining with figures of 4 wickets for 33 runs and was eventually named as Player of the Match, ably supported by Noor Ahmad and Mohit Sharma.

Rahul Tewatia’s heroics seal the deal for Gujarat Titans

Chasing a target of 143 runs for victory, GT faced early setbacks as they lost key wickets in the pursuit. Nevertheless, a composed innings from Shubman Gill, who contributed 35 runs off 29 balls, laid a solid foundation for the run chase. Sai Sudharsan and Tewatia provided crucial partnerships to keep GT’s hopes alive. PBKS’s bowlers tried their best to defend the modest total, with Harshal Patel and Liam Livingstone picking up crucial wickets. Nonetheless, GT’s determined batting lineup proved too strong to overcome. Tewatia’s explosive 36 off 18 deliveries, including 7 boundaries, tilted the scales in GT’s favor. Despite some late wickets, GT managed to reach the target with 5 balls to spare.
