Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has stirred controversy with his comments on MS Dhoni‘s iconic one-handed six during the IPL 2010 final between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI). Notably, Dhoni played a quickfire knock in the game but his former India and CSK teammate Harbhajan has downplayed the significance of Dhoni’s performance, stating that such feats are not extraordinary in cricket.

Harbhajan Singh’s remarks on MS Dhoni’s shot

The cricketer-turned-commentator was recently engaged in a conversation with Star Sports anchor Tanay Tiwari. The discussion revolved around the memorable encounter between CSK and MI in the IPL 2010 final, where Dhoni’s one-handed six became a highlight.

During the conversation, the anchor repeatedly questioned Harbhajan about Dhoni’s remarkable shot in the final. However, Bhajji expressed his discontent, asserting that Dhoni’s shot wasn’t as exceptional as portrayed.

Harbhajan emphasized that Dhoni’s six wasn’t unique, pointing out that MI’s Kieron Pollard also hit sixes during the same match. He said: “What a big deal about it right? Matlab aap to har baat ka wo bana leto ki akele MS ne hi sirf chakke mare hain. Kieron Pollard ne bhi chakke mare the us match mein. (You are saying as if only MS knows hot to hit sixes. Kieron Pollard also hit sixes in that game).”

Harbhajan’s controversial take on Dhoni’s six

Furthermore, Harbhajan elaborated on the shot’s technical aspect, mentioning that the ball was outside off, and such shots are a part of a batter’s follow-through. He concluded by stating that such occurrences are common in cricket and should not be excessively glorified.

“Thik hai wo baat alag hai Chennai Super Kings match jeet gayi thi. Aur ye ball obviously waha pe tha outside off. Followthrough me ye lag jate hain shots, koi aisa nahi ki bahut bada koi teer maar liya ho. To thik hai chalta hai, game me hote hain, kuch shots aise lagte hain It’s ok Chennai Super Kings won the game. The ball was outside off and batters hit these kind of shots [Hitting a six with one hand] in the followthrough. It is not a big thing. It happens in a game),” added Harbhajan.
