The 19th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 witnessed a clash of titans as Rajasthan Royals (RR) took on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the iconic Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The match wasn’t just about the battle between two teams but it was also a showcase of individual brilliance, with Virat Kohli‘s record-breaking century and Jos Buttler‘s stunning counter-attack that led Rajasthan to their fourth consecutive victory in the tournament.

The Virat Kohli mania: Eighth IPL century for the run machine

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s innings began on a high note, thanks to their former skipper, Virat. Kohli’s masterclass century, scoring 113 runs off just 72 deliveries, set the stage on fire. His innings was a blend of elegance and power, featuring twelve boundaries and four towering sixes. Faf du Plessis provided valuable support with a composed 44 off 33 balls. However, apart from these two, the rest of the batting lineup faltered, leaving RCB with a respectable yet slightly underwhelming total of 183/3 in their quota of 20 overs.

Jos Buttler’s counter ton outshines Virat’s efforts

Chasing a challenging target of 184 runs, Rajasthan Royals stumbled early with the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, the stage was set for Buttler’s heroics. Buttler’s scored a breathtaking century off just 58 balls and turned the tables in favour of the Royals. His innings, laced with nine boundaries and four sixes, showcased his ability to dominate any bowling attack. Alongside Buttler, Sanju Samson played a crucial knock of 69 runs off 42 deliveries, forming a partnership that propelled Rajasthan towards victory. Despite a slight scare towards the end, the Royals managed to clinch the game with an over to spare, finishing at 189/4 in 19.1 overs.

Buttler’s dramatic finish and the moment of pure camaraderie

One particular moment that stood out amidst Buttler’s scintillating innings was the moment he reached his century with a majestic six. With just one run required for victory and Buttler on 94, the tension was palpable. Cameron Green bowled a short of length delivery, and Buttler unleashed an audacious pull shot. The ball sailed over the deep mid-wicket fence, sealing not only his century but also Rajasthan’s triumph. The jubilant scenes that followed, with Shimron Hetmyer jumping in ecstasy and the entire RR dugout erupting in joy, captured the essence of IPL’s thrill and excitement.
