In the second T20I of the series, Babar’s innings of 32 runs off 26 balls went in vain as Pakistan fell short by 23 runs while chasing England’s formidable total of 184. This total was largely powered by a magnificent performance from England’s captain, Jos Buttler. Despite the defeat, the Pakistan skipper achieved a significant personal milestone during the game.
Babar Azam eclipses Rohit Sharma in T20I rankings
Babar surpassed India‘s captain, Rohit Sharma, to claim the title of the second-highest run-scorer in T20Is. The 29-year-old has amassed a total of 3987 runs in the shortest format of international cricket, standing just 13 runs shy of the coveted 4000-run mark.
Notably, Rohit played 151 matches and 143 innings to accumulate 3974 runs at a strike rate of 139.97. In contrast, Babar achieved his tally of 3987 runs across 118 matches and 111 innings, maintaining a strike rate of 129.91. Despite this feat, the star player still trails behind eminent Indian batter Virat Kohli, who holds the record for the most runs in T20Is with 4037 runs scored in 109 innings, at a strike rate of 138.15. Kohli’s exceptional statistics firmly establish him as the leading run-scorer in T20I cricket.
