In the electrifying Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, cricket enthusiasts were treated to a plethora of outstanding performances, both from individual players and teams alike. In the final of the cash-rich league, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured their third title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

KKR, who were asked to bowl first in the match, dominated SRH batters with their pace attack and restricted the team led by Pat Cummins to a below-par total of 113 runs in 18.3 overs. In response, Knight Riders easily chased the target, reaching it in just 10.3 overs with 8 wickets in hand.

After the conclusion of the final clash, players were lauded for their exceptional contributions throughout the tournament and were honoured with various titles and substantial cash prizes. Among the most prestigious accolades was the Player of the Match (POTM) award, given to the player who made the greatest contribution on the field during the game. Notably, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc was named as the winner of this award for this season for his impressive spell of 3-0-14-2. While Yusuf Pathan clinched this award in the inaugural season of IPL.

Across the history of the lucrative league, many players have showcased exceptional performances for their respective franchises in the final match, earning them the esteemed POTM award. It’s fascinating to note that each IPL final has seen a different recipient of the Man of the Match honour. Notably, only 4 bowlers, Starc, Anil Kumble, Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult, have claimed this award. Furthermore, Kumble holds the distinction of being the sole player from the losing side to have received this accolade.

Let’s take a closer look at the POTM award winners from each IPL Final.
