Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star player MS Dhoni left the field early after his team’s loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Saturday, May 18. CSK were knocked out of the IPL 2024 following their 27-run defeat to the Bengaluru side.

Did MS Dhoni avoid shaking hands with RCB players?

After the conclusion of the match, there was speculation that Dhoni ran away without shaking hands with the RCB players. However, this claim is inaccurate. Dhoni approached the RCB team to shake hands, but since they were engaged in celebrating their victory and thanking the Chinnaswamy crowd, Dhoni only managed to shake hands with the RCB support staff before walking away.

Here’s the video:

Dhoni’s dismissal against RCB

Dhoni, who was speculated to retire after CSK’s final group-stage game, was visibly frustrated with himself. He was dismissed on the second ball of the final over, right after hitting a massive 110-meter six off Yash Dayal. Batting on 25, Dhoni top-edged a slower delivery from the RCB pacer and was caught at deep square leg by Swapnil Singh.

Nail-biting finish

The match concluded with a nail-biting finish. CSK needed just 17 runs to qualify for the playoffs and 35 runs to win from the last 6 balls. Despite the best finishers in form of Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja being at the crease, they couldn’t hit the necessary boundaries off Dayal’s bowling.

The left-arm RCB pacer gave away just 7 runs in the final over, securing an incredible win for the home team.

With this victory, RCB qualified for the IPL playoffs with 14 points, while CSK’s hopes were dashed, marking the end of their campaign for this season.
