In the cricketing world, few names command as much respect and admiration as AB de Villiers. Known for his extraordinary talent, versatility, and ability to dominate bowlers in all formats, de Villiers has set a benchmark that many young cricketers aspire to reach. Recently, former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has identified a young talent who he believes has the potential to follow in the footsteps of the legendary South African cricketer.
Ambati Rayudu picks the next AB de Villiers
While speaking on Star Sports, Rayudu shared his thoughts on Tristan Stubbs, a promising young cricketer from South Africa, currently representing Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Rayudu expressed confidence in Stubbs, suggesting that he has the potential to reach the same level of greatness as the legendary De Villiers. He commended Stubbs for his outstanding performances for the Capitals, highlighting his remarkable ability to adapt to various deliveries and deliver powerful shots, which have made him a standout player this season.
“Tristan Stubbs is an all-round package. He has bowled a beautiful over and the way he has been striking the ball this season — he hits every length, right from the short ball to a fuller ball. He is also very good against slower ones. I feel he has tremendous talent. He is one of those South Africans in the mould of AB de Villiers. I think he has long way to get there. But, he looks really good to become as good as AB de Villiers,” said Rayudu.
