Former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma has expressed strong discontent over a privacy breach by the IPL broadcaster, Star Sports. In his social media post on X (formerly Twitter), Rohit accused Star Sports of recording and airing private conversations between players during training sessions and match days.
Star Sports recording private chats
Rohit’s frustration stems from Star Sports allegedly recording a conversation between him and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, which subsequently went viral on social media. This incident follows another instance where Rohit was seen requesting a cameraman to disable the audio while he spoke with teammate Dhawal Kulkarni.
Rohit Sharma fumes at Star Sports
In his social media post, Rohit emphasized the intrusive nature of constant recording, stating, “The lives of cricketers have become so intrusive that cameras are now recording every step and conversation we are having in privacy with our friends and colleagues, at training or on match days.
He added: “Despite asking Star Sports to not record my conversation, it was and was also then played on air, which is a breach of privacy. The need to get exclusive content and focused only on views and engagement will one day break the trust between the fans, cricketers and cricket. Let better sense prevail.”

Impact on player-broadcaster relationship
Rohit’s accusation highlights a growing concern among players regarding their right to privacy within the IPL environment. This incident could potentially strain the relationship between players and the broadcaster if left unaddressed.
Meanwhile, Star Sports is yet to issue an official statement regarding Rohit’s allegations. It remains to be seen if the broadcaster will implement stricter guidelines regarding player privacy during matches and training sessions.
