Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy played a crucial role in guiding his team to a remarkable victory against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 50th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Reddy’s impressive batting performance (76 not out from 42 balls) earned him praise from experts and teammates alike.
Notably, Reddy and Travis Head‘s onslaught against veteran RR spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was one of the highlights of the match. Chahal ended up conceding 62 runs in his four overs, with Reddy continuing his fine form and remaining unbeaten to guide SRH past the 200-run mark for the fifth time this season.

In a post-match interview, Reddy explained his role in the team’s batting strategy. His responsibility was to rebuild the innings after early dismissals and ensure that the batting lineup reached the 13th and 14th overs without losing any more wickets. This approach allowed explosive batters like Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad to come in and play aggressively right from the start.
Addressing the issue of losing quick wickets in recent matches, Reddy stressed the importance of his role in carrying the innings forward. By staying at the crease until the 13th or 14th over, Reddy aimed to provide Klaasen with the freedom to attack. He emphasized that it was crucial for Klaasen and Samad to have the opportunity to score freely, rather than coming in early and struggling to find their rhythm.
“From the last two matches, we are losing quick wickets and I have to go. My role is to carry on till the 13th and 14th over so that Klaasen gets a license to bang. There is no point that Klaasen and Samad are coming early, but not getting to score freely,” said Nitish in the post-match press conference.
