Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the second Qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with a commanding 36-run margin. Opting to bowl first, RR managed to restrict SRH to a total of 175 for 9. However, in their chase, RR’s formidable batting lineup struggled against Hyderabad’s spin attack, only mustering 139 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.
While the match appeared to be one-sided in the final overs, RR initially seemed poised to dominate SRH with their bowling prowess. Sunrisers’ top order struggled against the pace attack of the Royals. Notably, Heinrich Klaasen, who was set at the crease, was dismissed by a precise yorker from Sandeep Sharma.
Sandeep Sharma’s yorker sends Heinrich Klaasen packing
Following the collapse of SRH’s top and middle order, Klaasen ignited hope for the Orange Army with a superb half-century, steering Hyderabad’s recovery from 120/6.
However, Sandeep ensured that the South African couldn’t propel SRH to a strong finish. In the 19th over of the second innings, Sandeep delivered a medium-paced ball at 121 kmph. Despite its relatively slower speed, the delivery was impeccably placed at perfect line and length, catching Klaasen off guard and dismantling his stumps.

Navjot Singh Sidhu compares Sandeep with Wasim Akram
Navjot Singh Sidhu, the former Indian cricketer who now serves as a member of the Star Sports Hindi commentary panel, praised Sandeep for his exceptional bowling skills. The Punjab-born-commentator likened the yorker of the RR bowler to the likes of Waqar Younis and the variations reminiscent of Wasim Akram.
“Heinrich Klaasen was looking dangerous but Sandeep Sharma was not worried. His Yorker reminds me of Waqar Younis. It was a perfect ball to one of the best batters in white-ball cricket,” Sidhu said on Star Sports.
“He has a lot of variations and is like Wasim Akram, who kept the batters guessing during his playing days,” the 60-year-old added.
