Ravi Shastri, the ex-coach of the Indian national cricket team and a victorious World Cup participant, expressed openness to the idea of guiding a team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) down the line. He emphasized that while it may not happen immediately, should the opportunity arise, his motivation would stem from nurturing the burgeoning talents of India rather than financial gain.
After concluding his stint with the senior national team in 2021, Shastri, the former head coach of India, expressed disinterest in immediately pursuing a position within the IPL. The iconic all-rounder highlighted his enthusiasm for nurturing budding talents within the IPL ranks, suggesting that he may consider such an opportunity in the future.
Ravi Shastri shares his take on the coaching role in IPL
During a recent episode of his YouTube series, Ravichandran Ashwin engaged in a discussion with Shastri, who expressed admiration for the abundance of talent across India. Shastri emphasised his enduring enthusiasm for guiding emerging athletes. The ex-India captain revealed his decision to abstain from coaching in the IPL following his tenure with the senior national team in 2021, citing a desire for a hiatus from the confines of team dressing rooms.
“Not really. Not after doing India for 7 years. You never know what can come up in the future and how involved you are going to get,” said on Ashwin’s YouTube channel.
“You know, there is no doubting the experience you have and what you can bring to the table, but after 7 years with the Indian team, especially those times — you were there — the toughest time that game has seen since the World War II — during Covid, quarantine and the bubbles, you just wanted a break from the dugout, the dressing room and everything. The broadcasting and the mic gave me the freedom to express myself again. And have some fun,” he added.
