The eagerly awaited T20 World Cup 2024, slated to unfold its spectacle across the picturesque landscapes of the West Indies and the dynamic arenas of the United States of America (USA) in the first week of June, has sparked a fervent buzz of enthusiasm. With a formidable lineup of 20 teams primed for intense showdowns, this tournament heralds a pivotal juncture in cricket’s annals.

It stands as a watershed moment, marking the triumphant return of the ICC T20 World Cup to the shores of the West Indies after a hiatus since 2010 while also affording the USA a glittering opportunity to flaunt its burgeoning cricketing prowess before the eyes of the world.

Format of T20 World Cup

The teams will be divided into four groups of five for the initial stage, ensuring each team plays a minimum of four matches against others in their group. The top two teams from each group advance to the Super 8s, while the remaining sides head home. In the Super 8s, the remaining eight teams will be divided into two groups, competing in three matches each to determine the semi-finalists.

The victors from each Super 8s group then clash in the semi-finals, with the winners progressing to the grand finale. All eyes will be on Barbados on June 29th as two teams battle it out for T20 World Cup glory.

In the event of a tie in any match, a thrilling Super Over will be initiated. Should the Super Over end in another deadlock, subsequent Super Overs will ensue until a decisive winner emerges.

Moreover, to ensure the completion of all knockout fixtures during the semi-final and final stages of the tournament, extra time has been allocated.
A combined total of 250 minutes of extra time is available for both semi-finals. The first semi-final on June 26th will have 60 minutes tacked onto the end of the scheduled day’s play, with an additional 190 minutes set aside for June 27th if necessary. The second semi-final on June 27th boasts a full 250 minutes of extra time available on the designated day.

As for the grand finale on June 29, a reserve day on June 30 has been designated to accommodate any unforeseen delays.
