Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) dominant batting display, led by KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran, ultimately guided them to the 18-run victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 67 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Friday (May 17) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Despite a spirited chase from MI, LSG’s bowlers held their nerve to defend the total and emerge victorious in this high-scoring encounter.
LSG’s dominant batting display: Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul
LSG put up an imposing score of 214/6 in their 20 overs, showcasing a powerful batting performance against MI. Led by captain Rahul’s sublime 55 off 41 balls, LSG’s top order laid a solid foundation. Despite early setbacks with Padikkal and Stoinis departing cheaply, Rahul steadied the innings with crucial contributions. Pooran was the standout performer, smashing a scintillating 75 off just 29 balls, including 5 fours and an incredible 8 sixes. His aggressive approach propelled LSG to a formidable score, with valuable support from Ayush Badoni‘s unbeaten 22 off 10 balls and Krunal Pandya‘s quickfire 12 off 7 balls.

MI’s batting response under Rohit Sharma
In response to LSG’s challenging total, MI made a valiant effort but fell short, posting 196/6 in their 20 overs. Rohit Sharma led the charge with a brilliant 68 off 38 balls, featuring 10 fours and 3 sixes. However, despite contributions from Dewald Brevis and Ishan Kishan MI struggled to keep up with the required run rate. Hardik Pandya’s cameo of 16 off 13 balls provided some momentum, but it was Naman Dhir‘s explosive innings that gave MI a glimmer of hope. Dhir blazed his way to an unbeaten 62 off just 28 balls, smashing 4 fours and 5 sixes, showcasing his power-hitting abilities.
LSG’s bowling efforts
LSG’s bowling unit put in a commendable effort to defend their total. Naveen-ul-Haq was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 crucial wickets while maintaining an economy rate of 12.50. Ravi Bishnoi also made an impact, picking up 2 wickets and conceding 37 runs in his 4 overs. Mohsin Khan and Krunal Pandya chipped in with a wicket each, providing crucial breakthroughs at key moments. .

MI finishing at the bottom of the table. It's as pleasurable as a bottle of cold water in a desert. This can heal broken hearts, and put a man on mars. It's reason for human race's growth. It can keep revive a barren land.
