In a thrilling start to the England versus Pakistan Women’s T20I series, the English side emerged victorious with a commanding 53-run win over Pakistan. The match, held at Edgbaston, witnessed a stellar performance from England’s veteran wicketkeeper Amy Jones, who celebrated her 100th international appearance with a memorable display.

Facing a challenging situation early in the match, with England struggling at 11/4 after 17 balls, Jones played a pivotal role in rescuing her team with a composed innings of 37 runs. Furthermore, her four catches behind the stumps took her tally to 75 dismissals for England Women, surpassing Sarah Taylor’s previous record of 74.

However, it was Jones’ spectacular catch to dismiss Pakistan opener Gull Feroza that stole the limelight. In the second delivery of the sixth over, bowled by Lauren Bell, Feroza edged a vicious delivery that jagged back from outside off. Jones, displaying lightning reflexes, dived to her left and plucked the ball with one hand, completing an extraordinary catch that left spectators in awe.

England claim comprehensive win over Pakistan

England, batting first after losing the toss, posted a competitive total of 163/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Heather Knight led from the front with a well-crafted 49 runs, supported by crucial contributions from Jones and Danielle Gibson, who scored 37 and an unbeaten 41 respectively. Pakistan’s Waheeda Akhtar and Sadia Iqbal picked up two wickets each.

In response, Pakistan faltered in their chase, losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually getting bowled out for 110 in 18.2 overs. Sadaf Shamas was the top-scorer for the visitors with a brisk 35 off 24 balls. England’s Sarah Glenn starred with the ball, claiming four wickets for just 12 runs, while Bell provided valuable support with three wickets for 22 runs.
