He joined the Pakistan squad in Leeds ahead of their inaugural T20I against England at Headingley. Kirsten’s arrival was met with enthusiasm by Pakistan captain Babar Azam, assistant coach Azhar Mahmood, and team manager Wahab Riaz, underscoring the team’s excitement about his involvement.

Mahmood and Wahab also expressed their joy at the legendary cricketer’s arrival in the Pakistan camp. Following some lighthearted banter, Wahab presented Kirsten with the new Pakistan jersey. Accepting it with a smile, the 56-year-old proceeded to don the team cap.

Kirsten expresses his happiness about coaching Pakistan
With his appointment, Kirsten came forward to talk about how excited he was to lead Pakistan. He said that it was an honour to coach a team of talented people heading for the prestigious tournament.
“I’m truly excited to embark on this new journey with the Pakistan men’s cricket team. It’s an honor to coach such a talented and dynamic team, and I’m eager to contribute to their success on the international stage,” said Kirsten, as quoted by India Today.
He further added that it was truly an exciting period for Pakistan cricket, noting the presence of a new administration and players determined to achieve strong outcomes. Kirsten remarked that the upcoming global event will offer an excellent chance for the team to demonstrate their abilities and maintain Pakistan’s reputation as a formidable cricketing entity.
