Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star allrounder Daryl Mitchell‘s short practice session at the picturesque Dharamsala Stadium prior to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash with Punjab Kings (PBKS) clash on Sunday (May 5) caused a mishap that caught everyone’s attention. While honing his skills, Mitchell found himself in an unintended situation.

Daryl Mitchell’s practice mishap

Mitchell was fervently practicing his pull shots on the sidelines, with a short net placed nearby as a precautionary measure to shield the spectators. Amidst the intensity of his practice session, a mishap unfolded when one of Mitchell’s forceful pull shots transcended the safety netting, striking a young fan. The impact not only inflicted damage to the fan’s phone but also seemed to cause some injury. Subsequently, a video capturing the moment circulated on social media platforms, showcasing the unintended consequence of Mitchell’s powerful stroke, a cracked iPhone and an unfortunate fan nursing an injury.

Gracious gesture: Mitchell’s unique gift

In an effort to rectify the mishap, the gracious right-handed batter Mitchell went the extra mile by gifting the fan, distinguishable by their yellow jersey, a pair of gloves. The heartwarming exchange was captured on video, circulating widely on social media platforms, showcasing both the fan’s appreciation and the broken remnants of their iPhone.

Mitchell’s batting contribution in match against PBKS

Meanwhile, later in the match, Mitchell found himself in the thick of the action as he was called to bat at No. 3 following Ajinkya Rahane‘s dismissal for 9 in the second over of the innings. Mitchell exhibited his batting prowess, crafting some elegant strokes during his brisk innings of 30 off just 19 balls, which included a couple of boundaries and a maximum. However, his innings was cut short by Harshal Patel, who claimed his wicket as one of his three victims.

While Mitchell’s contribution was notable, it was Ravindra Jadeja who stole the show with the bat, top-scoring with 43 runs. Despite a somewhat challenging batting effort, the defending champions managed to post a competitive score of 167/9.

In the bowling department, CSK demonstrated their prowess on the varied pitch, with Jadeja leading the charge with figures of 3 wickets for 20 runs from his four overs of left-arm spin. Supporting him were Tushar Deshpande and Simarjeet Singh, who contributed with two wickets each, while Mitchell Santner and Shardul Thakur chipped in with one wicket apiece that resulted in CSK’s victory by 28 runs.

With this victory, CSK bolstered their position in the league and will now look forward to their upcoming matches against the Gujarat Titans (GT), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their quest for further success.
