Delhi Capitals (DC) ended their league stage on a high note, clinching a 19-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 64th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. This victory not only bolstered DC’s chances for a top-four finish but also marked their last home game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. To celebrate and thank their loyal fans, the DC players took a victory lap around the ground.
A dominant performance
After being asked to bat first, DC set a formidable target of 208/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Key contributions came from Abhishek Porel, who scored 58 off 33 balls, and Tristan Stubbs, who smashed 57 off 25 balls. The DC bowlers then delivered a strong performance, dismantling LSG’s top order early on. Despite valiant efforts from Nicholas Pooran (61 off 27) and Arshad Khan (58 off 33), LSG fell short of the target by 19 runs, sealing DC’s victory.
Gratitude to fans at Arun Jaitley stadium
After securing the win, the DC players, led by captain Rishabh Pant, took a lap of honour around the Arun Jaitley Stadium. This gesture was a heartfelt thank you to the fans who have consistently supported the team throughout the season. Pant and his teammates handed out tokens of appreciation, such as tennis balls, to the cheering crowd, highlighting the emotional bond between the team and their supporters.

DC are still alive in the playoffs race
DC’s path to the playoffs is challenging and depends on several outcomes. For them to qualify, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) must defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) need to lose both of their remaining matches by a combined margin of 194 runs. Additionally, LSG must either lose to Mumbai Indians (MI) or win but maintain a net run rate lower than DC.
