Australia legend Matthew Hayden has thrown his hat into the ring for the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinalists, backing some familiar powerhouses. The marquee event, co-hosted by the USA and West Indies, is already underway with exciting matches.
Matthew Hayden’s bold prediction
Hayden, a former Australian opener known for his aggressive batting, revealed his picks in a discussion with Star Sports. He believes the cricketing giants – Australia, England, India and South Africa – will be the ones battling it out in the last-four stage.
While Hayden acknowledges Pakistan’s strong bowling attack with the return of Naseem Shah and a dangerous batting trio of Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman, he expressed concerns about their fielding as a potential Achilles’ heel.

Paul Collingwood and Graeme Swann’s choice of teams
This isn’t the only prediction doing the rounds. Former England all-rounder Paul Collingwood fancies his home team, England, alongside the co-hosts, West Indies, to reach the summit clash. Interestingly, Graeme Swann, another ex-English cricketer, also sees a strong possibility of West Indies and England making it to the finals, along with India and his arch-rivals, Australia reaching the semis.
With the tournament in its early stages, only time will tell which teams will live up to these predictions. The cricketing world is eagerly waiting to see which teams emerge victorious and claim the coveted T20 World Cup trophy.
Notably, the grand finale of the multi-team tournament is scheduled for June 29 in Barbados.
