The ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, co-hosted by the United States of America (USA) and the West Indies, has entered its Super 8 stage, with eight teams vigorously competing for coveted spots in the semi-finals. Dale Steyn, renowned South African pacer and current commentator for the tournament, recently shared his bold predictions for the semi-finalists.
Super 8 structure
The Super 8s features two groups: Group A (India, Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh) and Group B (USA, England, West Indies, South Africa). From these groups, India and the USA advanced to the Super 8 from Group A, while Australia and England secured spots from Group B. The West Indies and Afghanistan progressed from Group C, with South Africa and Bangladesh making it through from Group D.

Dale Steyn’s semifinalists for T20 World Cup 2024
Steyn surprised many by omitting England from his list of predicted semi-finalists. Despite England’s recent successes, including their T20 World Cup 2022 victory and a notable win in the Super 8 against the West Indies, Steyn expressed skepticism about their ability to reach the final four in this edition of the tournament. Steyn predicted that South Africa and West Indies would advance from Group 2. He favoured South Africa due to personal allegiance and saw West Indies as a strong contender. In Group 1, Steyn believed Australia’s experience would lead them to advance, and he also saw India as a likely team to progress despite the tough competition.
“I think from this group (Group 2) I am going to go with South Africa and West Indies. I gotta go with South Africa because they are my team. England is a tough team but I think South Africa and West Indies and then from the other group (Group 1), it is a tough group but Australia because they just know how to win these tournaments and I have a feeling Afghanistan could push, but it is gonna be India,” Steyn was quoted as saying by the NDTV Sports.
