Indian captain Rohit Sharma delivered a vintage performance in the high-stakes Super 8 match against Australia at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 on Monday. Sharma set the stage ablaze in St Lucia, making a formidable Australian bowling attack look ordinary. Facing top bowlers like Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, Rohit smashed eight sixes and seven fours to amass 92 runs off just 41 balls, achieving a remarkable strike rate of 224.39.

Record-breaking feats

In addition to his explosive innings, Rohit set two new world records:

  • First Player to Hit Over 200 Sixes in T20Is: Rohit became the first player in history to cross the 200-sixes mark in T20 Internationals.
  • Most Sixes Against a Single Opponent in All International Cricket: He now holds the record for the most sixes hit against an opponent across all formats.
  • Further, Rohit also reclaimed his position as the highest run-scorer in T20I cricket, amassing 4,165 runs, surpassing Babar Azam (4,145) and Virat Kohli (4,103).

Spectacular praise

Though he fell short of a century, Rohit’s extraordinary innings drew widespread acclaim. Both fans and fellow cricketers took to social media to express their admiration for the captain’s phenomenal performance.
