In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, England faced the United States of America in Match 49 of the Super 8 Group 2 at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown. Winning the toss, England captain Jos Buttler opted to bowl first, a decision that proved advantageous.

USA struggles against England’s bowling attack

The USA, opening with Steven Taylor and Andries Gous, managed a steady start but soon found themselves struggling against England’s disciplined bowling. Despite a brief resistance from Nitish Kumar, who scored 30 off 24 balls with one four and two sixes, and Corey Anderson, who added 29 off 28 balls, the American batting lineup faltered. Harmeet Singh contributed a late 21 off 17 balls, but the rest of the team couldn’t hold their ground. Chris Jordan‘s hat-trick in the 19th over was the highlight, as he claimed four wickets for just 10 runs. Adil Rashid also delivered an exceptional performance, taking two wickets for 13 runs in his four overs. The USA was eventually bowled out for 115 in 18.5 overs.

England complete a commanding chase

Chasing a modest target of 116, England’s openers, Philip Salt and Jos Buttler, took charge from the outset. Buttler played a captain’s knock, scoring a blistering 83 off 38 balls, including six fours and seven sixes. Salt supported with a steady 25 off 21 balls. The pair’s aggressive batting saw England reach the target in just 9.4 overs without losing a wicket.
